The bloated bodies of an unidentified couple were recovered from the Bawana drain in outer Delhi on Saturday morning, police said. As the canal connects the capital with neighbouring Haryana, police said they were investigating if it could be a case of honour killing.
“The bodies, both terribly decomposed, were recovered early in the morning when passersby noticed them floating in the water
in the Shahbad Dairy area. The identity of both the bodies is yet to be established since both are disfigured,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (outer).
According to police, both the deceased were ascertained to be between 28 to 30 years of age as per prima facie medical examination after their bodies were taken to the adjacent Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
“While the contours of the male victim’s face are at least ascertainable, his female companion’s face is completely disfigured. Neither of the two victims’ bodies have any external injury marks,” DCP Sharma said.
Police said the cause of their death would be ascertained after a post-mortem examination which is yet to be conducted.
“Since there are no apparent injury marks on the victims’ bodies whether the cause of their death is due to drowning or some other reason will only be ascertained after a post-mortem examination. We are investigating the matter,” Sharma added.
