Of the six patients who were in critical condition, four have stabilised and two are on ventilator support.
Model town resident Rattan Lal Shroff, 58, who owns a textile agency and has lost both his legs in the Delhi high court blast, underwent debridement (surgical excision of contaminated tissue from the amputation site) on Saturday.
“He is on ventilator support but his condition is critical. We surgically removed the dead tissue around his wounds as the toxicity in his body was high, leading to fluctuation in his blood pressure,” said a doctor.
"The debridement is done to decrease chances of septic shock. The initial two to three weeks are critical as his vital organs, kidneys and lungs, need to adapt to the loss of limbs," the doctor added.Since Shroff’s amputation, he has been given 16 units of blood. Around 3pm, he was maintaining a blood pressure (BP) count of 100/60 and pulse count of 88. He is being given high doses of intravenous antibiotics to reduce infection. “His condition was sinking in the morning but since his surgery, he is better,” said Rajesh Goyal, his son-in-law.
Meanwhile, the condition of Uttam Nagar resident Mridul Buxi, 34, a salesman, is also showing no improvement. “He underwent a clot-removal and also lost a lot of blood during stomach surgery. Buxi had to be given a lot of blood transfusions,” said a doctor.
“The challenge is to save him from infections as he has high chances of developing septicemia. On ventilator, he is maintaining a BP count of 110/80 and pulse count is 88, but his condition is critical,” he said.
“Buxi has a fixator on his left leg and his right leg is supported with a slab as both his limbs have been severely fractured,” said a doctor. “I don’t care how, but I want him to live,” said his wife Rajni.
Meanwhile, Harish Kumar, 41, who was operated for multiple limb fractures is stable. The other three patients at Aiims trauma centre are being monitored. “They are serious, but not critical. Two of them will undergo surgeries next week,” said Dr MC Misra, chief, Aiims trauma centre.
