Showing signs of considerable improvement, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, on Friday sat on a chair in his hospital room, doctors attending on him said.

"Today, he could move out of his bed and sat on a chair kept in the room. He did it with ease. His condition is stable and he is doing fine," chief of Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Sciences at AIIMS Dr Sampath Kumar said.

The 84-year-old BJP leader has been making continuous progress since he was admitted to the hospital on February 3 with complaints of chest infection. He was also diagnosed with pneumonia.

The leader had undergone tracheotomy on February 13 to ease his respiration process and to avoid any infection, according to the doctors.
