Kick boxing, form of boxing that incorporates martial-art style kicking, has emerged as the most preferred self defence technique among women. It not only enhances physical fitness but helps reduce weight.
Sheetal, a resident, has changed her job to attend the classes. “I changed my job to attend training sessions. I can vouchsafe that it has helped me improve my stamina, self esteem and reduce weight,” said Sheetal. She has been attending classes for the last two years.
Some women are keen to send their children to training sessions.
“I work late nights. But still I come for my classes early morning. It’s refreshing and helpful as I have to drive back home alone after work,” said Anasuya who works with Towers Watson.
Little Footprints in DLF Phase 4 conducts kick boxing classes. Here, 30 women and about 70 children — both boys and girls — attend classes regularly.
Noorjahan Saund, a resident of Sushant Lok Phase 1, is happy that her son has become more disciplined after joining these classes while her shy daughter has gained more confidence.
“Many women enroll their girl children. Self defence is the basic reason as it is very necessary for women,” Kick boxing instructor Sumit Virman said.
Another resident, N Maan, has enrolled her two daughters for the classes.
“In today’s world, one needs to be physically fit to meet the challenges. It has become very unsafe for girls and that is why I want my children to join the course.”
