An important part of the process is the interview that helps the interview board gauge your personality, which are important attributes of a manager. Make sure you prepare a few topics from the core subjects that you took up at the graduation level. The interview board can also question you on current affairs in relation to your subject. You should also carry copies of the projects and certificates of internships that you undertook, since they are also an indication of your academic merit.

People with work-experience can also expect questions relating to their work profile. You can be asked questions about the nature of your job, your organisation and the working environment you are exposed to.

You should also be able to co-relate the learnings of your workplace with your B-school studies. It is important to demonstrate that you have learnt from, and added value to, the job/organisation.

Pursuing an MBA is a preferred career option these days. However, if you are doing it for the wrong reasons or are not clear why you want to do an MBA, then it is not a good idea. A B-school panel can easily assess this by probing your career motives and the role of MBA in the overall scheme of your career.

Questions like where do you see yourself 10 years down the line, or, why do you wish to take up a management career should be answered with clarity. You should also be in a position to cite examples in support of your answer.

The panel may also want to check how well you have assessed your capabilities. This is important because a large part of your job as a manager will involve managing peers and colleagues. They may also ask you questions on current affairs.

A future manager should be well informed about contemporary issues and should have the ability to form unbiased opinions.

The interview can start with a common question like “Tell me something about yourself?” While answering such a question, talk about your strong interest areas. Remember that if you do not know something, you should be honest enough to admit that you do not know.

Most important – dress appropriately.and make sure you carry with you all relevant documents in a file since the interview panel may want to take a look at them.
