JAC chairman Arvind Prasad Singh said, “We are happy with the improvement in the results. Although, we have negligible role in it. It is the results of students’ hard work.”

He said several measures including installation of CCTV cameras at examination centres had been introduced to conduct free and fair examinations in 2018, which had impacted the results slightly. “This year, students were prepared about the examination system, which reflected in their results,” Singh said.

Radheshyam Saha of Upgraded Plus-2 School, Shahargram, emerged topper with 89.8% marks in aggregate in science stream. In commerce, Amisha Kumari of Ursline Inter College, Ranchi, bagged the top position with 93% marks in aggregate.

Of the 93,298 students who appeared for the science exam, 53,186 passed. Altogether 20,447 students passed the examination with first division marks, while 30,874 students passed with second division.

In the commerce stream, of the 34,686 students who took the exam, 24,436 passed. However, girls have outshone in both the streams. A total of 7,115 students passed with first division, while 15,428 with second division.

Girls have outshone boys in science. Pass percentage of girls this year was 61.68%, while 55.01% boys passed. Girls performed better than boys even in the commerce stream with 79.07% girls passing as against 63.68% boys.

Among the districts, Palamu topped the chart with 72.37% results in science, while in commerce, Simdega led the chart with 89.31%.

The intermediate examinations were held in 458 centres across the state from February 20. The examination concluded on March 26 following a controversy. Intermediate physics paper in Giridih, Koderma and Hazaribag, held on March 2, had been cancelled following the paper leak incident that came to light through social media. JAC in its probe had found it true. The re-examination was conducted in three districts on March 26. Nine people involved in connection with the question paper leak case had been arrested by the police.
