Keep it simple, yet stylish
Trendy and comfortable is the way to go when it comes to shopping for clothes, accessories or getting stuff for your hostel room. Our campus journalists tell you more.
Shop till you drop!
It does not matter whether you are a shopaholic or not, but once you join college, you end up developing a fetish for buying clothes and accessories. While going over the top with your apparels is surely not the right way to go, there is nothing wrong with a trendy and comfortable style. So go for the top with a frilly neckline, bright-coloured pants or even Tantra tees! The rule is to keep it simple yet stylish. To give yourself some comfort in the sweltering Delhi heat, wrapping your head in a stole or a scarf will give you the much-needed respite. Sarojini Nagar market, Kamla Nagar, Dilli Haat, Khan Market and Janpath... options are aplenty
A backpack or a jhola, to carry the essentials, including books, is a must-have. Sturdy flip-flops or shoes are other essentials. These work for all kinds of weather and are especially useful for a college student because you need to move around from one place to the other. With those clouds lurking overhead, you never know when it is going to start pouring. So carrying an umbrella is the sensible thing to do during the months of July and August. Then, to beat the heat, you need sunglasses too! Carry a wallet if you want to avoid the embarrassment of rummaging through your bag for money or cards. And we don’t need to remind you of a handkerchief and a sanitizer (or the conventional paper soap!)
New-found love for stationery and library
We’ve all been to school. And when it comes to stationery, colleges are no different. So, from day one, be equipped with your paraphernalia. Even if you are trying to appear carefree, a writing pad and pen is a basic must. During your years in college, you will need to get photocopies of notes, purchase books, and sometimes copy down notes by hand. Libraries may sound boring, but accept the fact that you have to, at some point, visit them and study there
For that hostel room
If you’re like one of the many students who plan to live in a hostel or even shared PG digs, you need to do up your room. Maybe you’re not moving out of your house, but want to spruce up your room anyway... When it comes to posters, if you’ve been to Hauz Khas, you probably know what we are talking about. Find some pretty amazing posters based on old movies and commercials. If you’re into pottery, try the shops right outside Malviya Nagar Metro station. Some graffiti on your wall can do wonders for the look of your room. However, it’s very unlikely that you will be allowed to paint on your wall. So buy a white (or any other plain coloured) cloth and explore the Banksy in you
