Kota boy does city proud, secures 47th rank in UPSC

“I am over the moon after hearing about my rank,” Agarwal told Hindustan Times over the phone.

“Last year, I got selected in the UPSC but got a 389th rank after which I got central excise and customs department and have been under training since the last one year,” he said from Delhi.

Agarwal, IIT Mumbai graduate, said he took a shot at the exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission as he was looking for something more than the money that comes with an MNC job.

“After graduating from IIT in 2012, I worked in a private company for one year and left the job for the lack of self-satisfaction,” he said.

The 27-year-old said he used to spare around six to eight hours every day during his training to prepare for the civil services examination.

His father Sundarlal Agarwal, who has a wholesale footwear business in Kota, and housewife mother Indira Agarwal were in tears after they received the news about their elder son’s success.

When asked about his cadre preference, he said he would love to work in Rajasthan.

Fond of playing squash and listening to music, Agarwal said he wants to work for the poor and create employment opportunities for the youth.
