TBSE Class 10 result: Pass percentage dips to 59.59 from 67.3 last year; Akashdeep De is topper

The pass percentage in the madhyamik or Class 10 board examination was recorded at 59.59, a sharp decline from 67.3 in the previous year, results declared by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) on Tuesday showed.

The pass percentage also dipped in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) areas. This year, the figure is 39.14% as compared to last year when it was 49.05%.

“The results of Class 10 are not satisfactory. Most of the students scored poor marks in mathematics that resulted in the overall poor results. If all the schools could get eligible and dedicated mathematics teachers, hopefully, the results could be improved in future,” the board’s chief Mihir Kanti Deb told reporters after declaring the result.

Deb added that the introduction of a new syllabus from this year and “no detention policy” introduced in schools could be the probable reasons for the dip in the pass percentage.

This year, 22 students secured top ten positions.

Akashdeep De from Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan scored 97.2% marks to bag the first position. Five students got 96% marks to become the second rank holders.

They are Debaki Debnath and Mohammad Ashique Alam from Udaipur English Medium Higher Secondary School, Abir Debnath from Belonia Government English Medium Higher Secondary School, Deepjoy Rudra Sarma from Vivekananda Shishu Niketan and Subhajit Chakraborty from Siksha Niketan.

Sourav Chakraborty from Udaipur English Medium Higher Secondary School got the third position by securing 95.6%.

Students need to submit review forms to their respective schools, if they feel so, by next June 18 after which they should forward the forms to the board by June 21. Those appearing for the supplementary exams should apply within June 19 and the board should receive their forms via schools by June 22.

“The review forms will be available both in schools and on our website. But, the supplementary exam candidates will get their forms only on the website. Schedule of their exams will be announced later,” Deb said.

Boys did better than girls in Class 10 exams with a pass percentage of 62.87. There were 56.47% of girls who passed the exam.

There were 35,926 candidates who wrote the exams this year that started from March 6 to April 10. The dates of three language papers – Bengali, Hindi and Mizo of Class 10 – were re-scheduled due to the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP-IPFT government.

The board declared the results of Class 12 or higher secondary exams earlier, in which 78.62% students passed. Girls recorded a pass percentage of 80.97 while the boys registered 76.47.
