Meanwhile, support is growing for Pushkar Singh Dhami’s continuation as chief minister. Many new lawmakers and party workers visited Dhami at his official residence on Sunday.

Addressing the media, Dhami said he is ready to fulfil any role the party gives him. “BJP’s victory in the state means that people in the state have acknowledged the development work being undertaken in the state under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Dhami said.

“I am just an ordinary worker of the party, who was chosen to be CM of the state despite having held no administrative post.”

On having lost his seat in the assembly, Dhami said he had to focus on the whole state and couldn’t focus on the Khatima constituency, where he contested. “I accept the mandate of people in Khatima and resolve to keep working for the betterment of the people across the state,” he said.

Some 6-7 MLAs have come forward to vacate their seats so Dhami can contest again and continue as the CM, said Manveer Singh Chauhan, BJP’s state media in-charge.
