Adhikari said that his party's only demand from the Election Commission(EC) is to hold a fair election in the state.

"In the last 44 years, the government in Bengal was against the central government. There were only processions and rallies against the central government. This can't happen in long term. There's unemployment in Bengal, debt of 4,60000 crore, no industry....situation is horrible in Bengal. Our only demand from the Election Commission to hold a fair voting," he added.

West Bengal is set to witness a fierce battle between the BJP and ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by chief minister Mamara Banerjee in an eight phase poll.

The BJP and the TMC have been at odds with each other over a number of issues ever since the former came to power at the Centre in 2014. While Mamata Banerjee has held the BJP responsible for sowing seeds of communal disharmony, the BJP has accused her of Muslim appeasement and being anti-Hindu.

The voting will be done on March 27, April 1, April 6, April 10, April 17, April 22, April 26 and April 29. The results for the 294 assembly seats will be announced on May 2.
