In an interview, she was asked about her relationship with Shantanu Hazarika, and how she seems to be rather 'guarded' about her personal life.

"I am not hiding anything; that’s not my nature. It is too much effort to keep things a secret and I had decided early on that was what I didn’t need in my life. However, I have also not had too much personal life, because I have grown up in front of people from a very early age. My own family felt like it didn’t belong only to me, so I am instinctively a little guarded about my personal life. I am not complaining but that’s how it has panned out for me," she told a leading daily.


She said that social media has come as a boon to her, because now, she gets to control the narrative. She said, "Ever since I was a child, I had a problem with people misunderstanding me. Online, I am me; you can like it or hate it."

Shruti in a recent interview spoke about her youth, and her parents' separation. She told Zoom in an interview, "I was just excited for them (her parents) to live their own lives. I was glad they separated as I do not think two people who are not getting along, should get along for some reason. They continue to be wonderful parents. I am particularly close to my dad. My mum is doing well and is a part of our lives as well. It actually panned out for the best."
