Preity Zinta is still smarting over reports of a dinner date with Brett Lee that ended with her sneaking out of the back door of the Bandra nightspot, Olive, after she was spotted.

“I’ve never come out of Olive’s back door, ever. Why would I need to do that when I’m single and not seeing anyone? And just to set the record straight, I was there for dinner with another friend and Brett joined us. But obviously the person who spotted us together, didn't spot him,” she grouses.

She admits that she’s known the Aussie cricketer for the past seven years. He’s played in her team, Kings XI Punjab, for three seasons and only this year moved to Shah Rukh Khan’s franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders.

“But he still remains a friend, a dear friend. When I was going through a personal issue, he stood by me. Ditto for me. He’s a great guy, plays the guitar and loves movies,” she smiles.

Friend? Not a good friend? A frown replaces the dimples, “How can I have an affair with Brett every year only during the IPL season? What happens during the rest of the year? Why can’t a man and a woman have platonic relationship? Why does it always have to be romantic? I’ve never had an affair with anyone I have worked with, whether it’s a co-star or a cricketer.”

‘Yuvi reminds me of my younger brother’

There’ve been rumours about Preity and her former Kings XI Punjab captain, Yuvraj Singh, too.

She says exasperatedly, "Yuvi’s always reminded me of my younger brother. But I guess others see the equation differently. He’s a sweet guy… Little different but a lot of fun."

Last season, he switched sides to captain Pune Warriors and played a cameo against the Kings XI Punjab, leading to their defeat. Yet, his former mentor was all smiles at the prize distribution.

“I wanted to strangle him. When he was playing for us, he never got going at Mohali. Even during the World Cup he scored a duck. But that one match he had to score and take us down,” she says in mock anger.

“But it’s just a game, you lose some, you win some.”

Any chances of Yuvraj returning to her team?

“You never know, life’s unpredictable. This year because of the court case we couldn't bid for him during the auctions. But we got Gilly (Adam Gilchrist), a ‘legend’. Earlier we’d given Shaun Marsh to Team Australia, this year we gave Paul Valthaty to Team India.”
