Even though several celebs have no qualms endorsing fairness creams, some actors do put their foot down when it comes to becoming the face of such products. Joining the bandwagon with Ranbir Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut now is Randeep Hooda.

Even though several celebs, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra, among others, have no qualms endorsing fairness creams, some actors do put their foot down when it comes to becoming the face of such products. In the past, Kangana Ranaut and Ranbir Kapoor have turned down such endorsements, and now

has joined the bandwagon.

“It’s a colonial hangover to be fair. India, as a country, has an obsession with fairness, whereas the entire world is lying under the sun and getting a tan. I think men should be tall, dark and handsome and not tall, fair and handsome,” says Randeep.

The actor feels that the obsession with fair skin is “discriminatory”. “The idea of beauty being fair should be demolished. I was offered big money for this project, which I could have used for my horses (he owns a stud farm), but I refused, as everything can’t always be about money,” he says.

However, the 38-year-old refrains from judging others who are part of such advertisements. “To each his own. Who does what is their business and not mine,” he says.

Summing up, the actor says that he is proud of his skin tone. “When I was living abroad, everybody was in love with my dark skin,” he informs, adding, “Even for girls, it is not necessary to be fair. If you are fair-skinned, great, if you’re not, that’s great as well. You should be happy in your skin.”
