Delhi to rule Mumbai fashion week?
Lakme Fashion Week — Summer/Resort 2011 is all set to happen. Will it be Delhi, or will it be Mumbai?
Will it be Delhi, or will it be Mumbai? The tug of war has begun, yet again, this time on the fashion front. Just days after the announcement of designer Rohit Bal as an advisory board member for the Lakme Fashion Week — Summer/Resort 2011, to be held from March 11-15 in Mumbai, rumours are ripe that the grand finale designers for the coveted Mumbai event are from the Capital.
“Yes, I have been inducted by Lakme Fashion Week as part of their advisory panel,” says Bal, who was also rumoured to be the grand finale designer for the event earlier. Now, sources have revealed that Delhi-based designers Gauri and Nainika Karan, who have designed for actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, may be the chosen ones for the finale. Nainika, however, refused to comment on their participation.
Anil Chopra, CEO of organisers Lakme Lever, says, “The selection of the grand finale designer is made four to five months in advance, based on our theme for the season. It’s not on the basis of which city the designer belongs to.” Last season, too, Delhi designer Malini Ramani had clinched the finale at LFW.
Mumbai designer Troy Costa says, “As long as it is a talented designer, it doesn’t matter if he is from Delhi or Mumbai.”
