10 commandments to follow
* Designer Nachiket Barve shares a list of 10 dos and don'ts for pulling off the monochrome look with ease:
* Proportion is vital; your outfit must be flattering to your body type. Use deeper colours to camouflage flaws.
* Two or three tones are enough. You don't have to go overboard with mixing for the sake of it.
* It's a good idea to offset your monochrome outfit with a neutral accessory.

* Layering is a good idea for mixing colours, rather than colour-blocking within one piece.
* A play of fabrics such as linen with chiffon, silk and organza within the palette adds interest.
* A dash of metallic's can add fun to your ensemble.
* It's a great idea to take a picture of yourself in the outfit and see how it looks before stepping out. Sometimes, it sounds better in your head or in theory than it does when executed.
* A vertical play of colour-blocking can give you the illusion of slimness.
* Stay within a close range of tones and then add one pop of colour to lift the look.
* Work with colours that flatter you, and don't follow a trend blindly.
