Day One at Lakme Fashion Week had all the ingredients that make it different from its Delhi rival. A generous helping of Bollywood stars (read Dia Mirza, Farhan Akhtar, Malaika Arora Khan, Neha Dhupia), seamless organisation and a touching display of humility in an industry notorious for balancing the proverbial chip on its shoulder.

James Ferreira paid tribute to his team of tailors, who helped him put together a show in a record five days, by calling them on to the ramp. Now here’s a trend we’d like to see again…

Boxy jackets
Wearing jackets in summer might be a fool’s errand, but these loose-fitted colour-blocked versions as seen on the ramp at Shrivan and Narresh won’t leave you sweaty. Perfect as a cover-up for that racy bikini you want to wear.

Pyramid hair
A look favoured by James Ferreira, Drashta and Khushali Kumar, hairdos reached stratospheric proportions on the opening day. This style lends a whole new meaning to the term headstrong.

Plunging necklines
Cleavage is the new black.. Peek-a-boo necklines turned up on the ramp at Rajat Tangri and Sailex, and many a bold LFW visitor had already copied the trend on the front row. Time for lingerie brands to offer their full support.

Worst Dressed
Sonakshi Sinha should know better than to turn up at fashion week looking like a hot air balloon. Let’s hope a strong wind doesn’t pick her up and transport to Alibaug by accident.

Mohawk dresses
Business in the front, party in the back, this silhouette was as popular on the ramp as it was off it. Masaba’s funky cow print decorated her monochromatic version, while models floated by in pastel dresses in the same dramatic shape.

Best Dressed
Anu Dewan’s wardrobe budget is probably equal to East Timor’s GDP. So it’s no surprise when the socialite comes well turned-out. Case in point, the fluorescent shift dress paired with matching python clutch and lace booties. No big deal.
