The Indian connect at the Oscars was not only limited to Slumdog Millionaire. A lesser-known ‘Delhiite’ made it there too, albeit through his designs. As actress Uma Thurman walked the red carpet, not many knew that her neckpiece was actually designed by a city-based Khanna Jewellers from Karol Bagh!

The round diamond pendant of 9.05 carat was studded with 35 forever mark diamonds. It all happened when DTC assigned a few jewellers from across India to send in their designs for the Oscars. “I sent nine designs but this was selected by the Oscar committee,” says Manoj Khanna, of Khanna Jewellers, who’s “really proud that India is shining big at the Oscars.” Any more Hollywood clients? “We are getting a lot of congratulatory calls, let’s see what’s next,” says Khanna. The neckpiece is priced around Rs 2 crore, but the popularity it got is as Khanna puts it “priceless”.
