Colours like blue, green and pink, coupled with simple silhouettes, summed up the red carpet on Day 8 of the Cannes Film Festival. Plain gowns and fewerembellishments were in vogue. However, there were few exceptions like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Jane Fonda, who opted for elaborate evening gowns.

Jane Fonda

Dramatic might not always be impressive, and this fact became apparent with Jane Fonda’s latest Cannes appearance. While the 77-year-old has been creating waves with her sartorial choices at the festival, her black gown with a pink trail didn’t really excite.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
For her second red carpet appearance, Aishwarya stepped out in a dramatic ruffled monochrome gown by Ralph & Russo. The actor’s natty strapless number was a great choice, and made her stand out.

Sophie Marceau

The jury member has pulled off quite a variety this year. Her latest outing was a shimmeringkaleidoscope of colours. The straight-cut dress with a thigh-high slit was not over-the-top, yet it was an eye-catcher.

Rachel Weisz
Taking a rather simple route, Rachel Weisz opted for a plain satin teal gown. While the full-sleeved, floor-length dress had a retro vibe, it seemed a little too subtle for the red carpet of a prestigious event like this.

Kendall Jenner
The model made a statement in a black Azzedine Alaïa cropped top and skirt. Even though Jenner looked pretty, with no embellishments and only a few mesh inserts, the ensemble seemed a bit bland for a red carpet outing.

Nikki reed
While several celebrities opt for racy outfits for their red carpet appearances, Nikki looked equally glamorous when she walked down the red carpet in a fully covered-up navy blue gown by Azzaro. The floor-length dress also flaunted a sheer cape, and showcased only a small patch of embroidery.
