Strongest line-up of sponsors this fashion week

The upcoming WIFW will see the strongest line-up of commercial partners- indicative of the country's increasing fashion clout.

The upcoming edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) will see the strongest line-up of commercial partners so far - indicative of the country's increasing fashion clout.

"The forthcoming event has greatest number of sponsors and it reiterates the synergy going forward to the agenda of the business of fashion," Rathi Vinay Jha, director general of event organiser Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), said here Tuesday.

The indigenous and international brands that are associating with WIFW autumn-winter 2008 event includes ITC Group's Wills Lifestyle as the title sponsor and Fiama Di Wills, Chivas, HP, Audi, Birla cellulose, Reliance Mutual Fund, Elle magazine, hotel Le Meridien, Big FM and Yahoo India as co-sponsors.

The 11th edition of the fashion event is scheduled for March 12-16 at Pragati Maidan here.

"WIFW is growing from strength to strength. The synergy between the sponsors and partners are excellent," Jha said at a press conference, welcoming the sponsors and partners.

Said Summet Nair, executive director of FDCI: "This edition is going to be an exciting combination of a fantastic venue, exciting international visitors, highest number of commercial partners ever and the country's leading designers on one platform."

As many as 84 designers, established and new, will display their works over five action-packed days. It would include 10 budding designers and 15 new entrants.

While all participants get a chance to display their designs in the exhibition area, 61 select designers will showcase their collections on the ramp in 40 shows.

This year, designers will be showcasing their collections under three broad categories - Contemporary, Synthesis/Heritage and Creator.

Under the Heritage segment, designers will exhibit their collections that celebrate and promote India's unique legacy of clothing, craft and textile. Synthesis will showcase apparel that attempt to merge Indian sensibilities with international ethos.

The Contemporary category will incorporate ultra prêt clothing in accordance with international standards.

The Creator section gives a free hand to the style gurus to create something original. Designers will blend innovation with unique technique to produce masterpieces.
