“I work out everyday and my routine usually involves cardio in the mornings, like dancing, kick boxing or gymnastics, and weight training in the evenings. I supplement that with a protein-carbs diet,” she tells the mag.

Interested in giving your workout a little boost? Take a page from actor Disha Patani’s book and try weightlifting. Contrary to what you might think, lifting weights doesn’t lead to gained weight and Disha feels it is key to weight loss.

Taking about why it is a great workout and will most definitely help you slim down and change the shape of your body, Disha, who stunned on the recent covers of Maxim India and Grazia India, says: “The general assumption is that women working out involves cardio, not weight training. But we all work out and do heavy weights; I come across so many girls in the gym training really hard. At the end of the day, it isn’t about the gender, but about working on your body and becoming your fittest self.”

Disha also opened up about her fitness regimen and eating habits. She tells the Vogue India that for the most part, she keeps active and also sticks to a regimented diet: “It is definitely advisable to cram in a small meal before a work out, consisting of some protein, like eggs. After exercising, it is good to add protein again, either through chicken, eggs or paneer.”

But even then, Disha gives herself cheat days to eat anything she wants: “I absolutely love them; in fact, I wait for cheat days the whole week. Depending on the diet I am following and my shoot schedule, I sit down once a week and eat everything I can fit into my stomach.”

While we could talk about workouts and diets all day, one also needs decent footwear, according to Disha. So where do you start? Whether you’re lifting weights, trying a new cardio, or doing some at-home workout, proper footwear is essential to keep you supported, protected, and feeling good.

“You need to understand your feet first—whether you are flat footed or have high arches. Only then can you buy something that fits you properly. But always keep comfort as your top priority, and ensure that you are opting for the right size—your shoes shouldn’t be too big, loose or tight,” Disha says.

They might be out of our price range, but we are forever drooling when we see Disha exit the gym in edgy workout gear. Disha is pretty consistent in wearing eyecatching sneakers, an easy way to make a statement in an otherwise low-key gym ensemble.

Her tips to styling a gym look?

“The key is to keep it fuss-free yet fashionable, so don’t overthink it. Your frame of mind needs to be focused on the workout regimen you are following. Comfort is important too.”
