Robbie Keane signs for ATK ahead of upcoming ISL season
Ireland and Tottenham Hotspur great Robbie Keane has signed for Kolkata-based ATK ahead of the 2017-18 Indian Super League (ISL) season
Robbie Keane, Ireland and Tottenhan Hotspur great, is set to play his trade in Indian football after signing for Kolkata-based Indian Super League (ISL) franchise ATK ahead of the 2017-18 season.
Keane will join former Spurs teammate Teddy Sheringham at the club, with the latter being roped in as the head coach of the club for this season.
“At this stage of my career, the offer to experience a new league and culture in Asia appealed to me. To join the current Indian Super League champions is a great pleasure and through hardwork I hope to bring the ATK fans more success and enjoyment over the course of the 2017/2018 season,” Keane explained his move in a press release sent by the club.

Sheringham, who had played with Keane for the 2002-03 season at Spurs, said, “I am sure ATK’s striking abilities will be bolstered with Robbie in the side. I am sure the young Indian players we have selected from the domestic draft will learn from him about the way he goes about preparing for a major tournament like ISL.”
Keane had last played for Los Angeles Galaxy in USA’s Major League Soccer (MLS) till late last year.
Apart from Tottenham, he had also previously played for Inter Milan, Leeds United, Liverpool, Celtic, among others.
