“When objected to, the accused misused his position that resulted in months of mental harassment for the victim and her family. When she resigned, the company did not give her clearance due to which she could not join another job,” said Usha Kundu, assistant commissioner of police (crime against women).

Kundu also said that the victim complained that she was also denied medical leave.

The victim also alleged that the human resources department and management of the company did not help her in such a situation. An FIR has been registered against the director-cum-co-founder under sections 354A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the women police station, Sector 51.

The victim recorded her statement before a duty magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC on Monday, police said.

However, the accused has denied the charges and said he was being targeted.

“We are yet to receive the copy of the FIR. But, clearly we are being targeted unfairly due to vested interests and we shall be ensuring that justice is duly done,” said the accused.

Kundu said police are investigating the case and no arrest has been made so far.

According to the victim, the issue started when she asked for a medical leave on October 16 last year to which the accused first agreed at email. However, next day, the accused refused to approve her leave as he wanted her to attend an important meeting. Though the victim had shifted the leaves, they were still not approved, said the police.

“I had always been sincere, and worked very hard for the company and was applauded for my work. This behaviour was disrespectful, inhuman and unprofessional. The overall insensitive behaviour and conduct of the accused and the management towards me forced me to resign from my job,” said the victim in her complaint.
