Police on Sunday arrested a notorious criminal accused in cases of theft, loot and attempt to murder, who had a bounty of R25,000 on his head.
Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Rajesh Duggal said the Crime Branch Bilaspur got a tip-off that history-sheeter Gaurav, a resident of Begampur Khatola, was on his way to Khandsa Chowk with the intent of perpetrating some crime.
A team led by assistant sub-inspector Manjeet Singh set up a check-post outside Begampur Khatola village. They apprehended Gaurav while he was walking towards the village and found a country-made pistol and two live cartridges on him. A case under sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against Gaurav at Manesar police station. On interrogation, the accused confessed to having shot a man in Bas Kuchla village in Manesar police station area this year. He also said that he had stolen a Maruti Alto car in 2007 from a trailer.
Gaurav had also reportedly shot a man in Begampur Khatola village in 2010. Apart from being involved in a bike theft in 2005, he had also looted a bike from a native of Bihar in 2007. In the same year, the accused had been arrested with an illegal firearm.
