Ant-Man and the Wasp India box office day 2: Marvel stings Diljit Dosanjh’s Soorma
Marvel’s latest superhero film, Ant-Man and the Wasp, beat out Diljit Dosanjh’s hockey film, Soorma, at the Indian box office. Check out figures here.
The 20th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man and the Wasp, has shown an upward trend at the Indian box office, and has made ₹16 crore in two days of release.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film made ₹7 crore on Saturday (nett) for a gross total of ₹16.02 crore. The film beat out local competition, which came in the shape of Diljit Dosanjh’s hockey film, Soorma. The biopic on the life of Indian hockey star Sandeep Singh has made ₹8.25 crore in two days and saw a bigger day-to-day upward trend than Ant-Man 2.
In comparison, Marvel’s last film, Avengers: Infinity War opened to ₹31 crore on its way to make an all-time Hollywood record of more than ₹250 crore earned at the box office. Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 2 continued the momentum with a ₹11 crore opening day and a ₹33 crore weekend. The recent Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom made ₹53 crore in its opening weekend in India.
Ant-Man and the Wasp’s international roll-out is being staggered because of the ongoing FIFA World Cup. The film opened in the US on July 13 and will be released in several European territories next week. The film has so far made $190 million worldwide on a reported budget of $162 million.
Marvel’s next film will be February’s Captain Marvel, which will be followed by Avengers 4 in May.
