The critically acclaimed story of women behaving badly took 3.44 million pounds ($5.5 million), knocking last week's chart-topper Green Lantern down to third spot after just one week.
Kung Fu Panda 2 was at No.2 for a second week, with Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake in school comedy Bad Teacher down one at four.
Boozy comedy The Hangover Part II, slipped a place to five, just above X-Men: First Class which was down at six from five.
Johnny Depp blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides slipped a spot to seventh while Formula One biopic Senna was down one at eight.
Ninth, also down one, was Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 with Bollywood newcomer Double Dhamaal making its debut at 10 ($1 = 0.626 British Pounds)
