Joaquin Phoenix wins the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama, for his performance in Todd Phillips’ controversial comic book film, Joker. The tight field also included Christian Bale, Antonio Banderas, Adam Driver and Jonathan Pryce.

Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy

Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood picks up its third award of the show, beating out Dolemite is my Name, Knives Out, Rocketman and Jojo Rabbit.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical

Awkwafina wins the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical, for her performance in The Farewell. Other nominees include Ana de Armas, Emma Thompson, Beanie Feldstein and Cate Blanchett. This is the first time an east Asian has won a lead actor award at the Globes, for a film.

Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy

Taron Egerton pulls off a surprise win for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. He played Elton John in the musical biopic Rocketman. Egerton beat out Daniel Craig, Leonardo DiCaprio, Eddie Murphy and Roman Griffin Davis.

Best Supporting Actor

Brad Pitt wins the Best Supporting Actor award (and gets the biggest cheer of the show) for his performance in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Pitt’s fellow nominees in the category included Tom Hanks, Anthony Hopkins, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino.

Best Original Score - Motion Picture

Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir wins the Best Original Score - Motion Picture, for her chilling work on Joker.

Best Limited Series or TV Movie

HBO’s Chernobyl picks up the Golden Globe for Best Limited Series or TV Movie, beating out Catch-22, Fosse/Verdon, Unbelievable and The Loudest Voice.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television

Actor Michelle Williams wins the Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television, for her performance in the FX show, Fosse/Verdon. Other nominees included Kaitlyn Dever, Joey King, Merritt Weaver and Helen Mirren. “Women, please vote in your own self-interests. It’s what men have been doing for years, which is why the world looks so much like them. Don’t forget: we are the largest voting body in this country. Let’s make it look more like us,” Williams said in her speech.

Best Director - Motion Picture

Olivia Colman won the Golden Globe for Best Performance By An Actress In A Television Series – Drama, for her performance in Netflix’s The Crown. Other nominees included Jennifer Aniston, Jodie Comer, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon.

Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie

Patricia Arquette wins the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie, for Hulu’s The Act.

Best Original Song, Motion Picture

Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again, from the musical biopic Rocketman, has won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. “Once you overcome the one inch barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many amazing films,” Bong said in his acceptance speech.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge wins the Best Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy Golden Globe for Fleabag. Other nominees included Natasha Lyonne, Rachel Brosnahan and Christina Applegate. “Personally, I’d also like to thank Obama, for putting us on his list, and as some of you may know, he’s always been on mine,” Waller-Bridge joked in her speech.

In India, the Golden Globes 2020 will air on Monday (January 6) at 7.30am IST on Colors Infinity, Comedy Central, and Vh1. However, the coverage will not be live, but an hour behind the actual event.

While no streaming platform available in India will stream the awards show live, the official Twitter account of the Golden Globe Awards will be updating the list of winners in real time.

The red carpet event kicks off

The stage is set and the red carpet laid out for the 77th Golden Globe Awards ceremony in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra was all decked up as she joined her singer-actor husband Nick Jonas at the event. They are also two of the many presenters of the night.
