Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom roars in India box office opening, makes 53 crore

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has opened to ₹53 crore in its first three days, continuing the streak of recent success Hollywood film have seen in India, following Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has continued the fantastic run Hollywood films are having in India. After the record breaking debut of Avengers: Infinity War and solid opening weekend numbers of Deadpool 2, the sequel to 2015’s blockbuster dinosaur adventure made 53 crore in its first three days in India. The film was up against Rajinikanth-starrer, Kaala.

According to Variety, Fallen Kingdom’s worldwide debut - two weeks ahead of its US opening - amounted to $151 million ( 1000 crore). It opened at the number one spot in 48 countries. It’s top territories were South Korea, UK & Ireland, France and Spain.

The film will be rolled out in more than 20 countries in the next two weeks, with the world’s second biggest movie market, China, slated to get the film on June 15.

The first Jurassic World movie broke the opening weekend record in the US - it’s now at number 4 - and went on to gross $1.6 billion worldwide.

According to the latest tracking figures, industry experts predict that the sequel will make between $130 and $150 million in its US debut, down from the first film’s $208 million.

The reviews for the dino spectacle have been mixed, with some praising direction as being better than the first Jurassic World. The film currently sits at a precarious 62% on the review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes.

The Hindustan Times review of the film - which you can read here - criticised the thin plot and lack of inventiveness for a franchise that relies so heavily on nostalgia.

Fallen Kingdom is the fourth Hollywood film to have performed exceptionally this year. Avengers Infinity War became the biggest foreign film of all time, with a gross of over 250 crore, followed by around 70 crore each for Deadpool 2 and Black Panther. The first Jurassic World made approximately 150 crore.
