‘Sly and I are friends now’
Action star Dolph Lundgren talks about his changed equation with actor Sylvester Stallone.
Did you know Dolph Lundgren hit Sylvester Stallone aka Sly so hard while filming Rocky IV (1985) that Sly had to be admitted in intensive care due to swelling around his heart? And that Lundgren feared Sly?
Things, however, changed for the Swedish actor once he reunited with the Rambo star in The Expendables (2010).
“I think now I’m close to Stallone. Then, he was just my boss and I was kind of scared of him. He’s still my boss but, in a different way,” says the 54-year-old, who again shares screen space with Sly, this time in The Expendables 2 that hit Indian screens on Friday. But his fear has not subsided in totality. Asked if he’d like to direct the third installment to the all-action star franchise, he said, “No, because then I’d have to direct Stallone.”
His fans may not know that Lundgren has a Masters in Engineering in real life, and has one in the movie too. Was it an inside joke? “I just have the diploma. It’s hovering some place in a drawer. I’ve forgotten most of it,” he says.
Still in great shape, the actor confesses it’s “difficult” to maintain the muscles. “You have to work harder and be disciplined. (I workout) three to five days (in a week) depending upon how much I travel,” says Lundgren.
