2 Hizbul militants killed in encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama
On receiving information about their presence in Tekkin village, a cordon and search operation was started that led the militants to fire at the forces.
Two local militants of Hizbul Mujahedeen were killed in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday morning. This was the second encounter in the district in last twelve hours. A militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad has been killed in Tral on Friday.
Police said that the army and the special operation group of police launched a cordon and search operation in Tikken village based on credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
Police spokesman said during the search operation, the militants fired upon the search party which led to an encounter. “In the encounter, two militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter,’’ he said, adding arms and ammunition was also recovered from the militants.
Police identified the slain militants as Liqyat Wani of Below and Wajid ul Islam of Babhara villages in Pulwama. Among the weapons recovered was an Insaas rifle which was snatched by militants from the police at Muran. Police said the militants were involved in series of militancy related incidents in Pulwama district.
A shutdown was observed in Pulwama town against the killings.Authorities suspended the internet mobile services in the area.
On Thursday, security forces had busted a hideout recovering explosive materials for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
On Tuesday, two militants, including a deserter from the Indian Army, were killed in a gun battle with security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. Both the militants were locals and residents of Shopian district. One of the militants Idrees Ahmad had deserted the army and joined militant ranks.
