According to the reports, a tribal family had arranged a feast on the occasion of a wedding in Kolamguda hamlet under Kothapalli H gram panchayat of Narnool block on Tuesday night. Some of the guests, including children, ate the left-over mutton curry on Wednesday morning as well.

They started vomiting and complained of severe stomach ache soon after eating the meal. Even as elders in the hamlet realised the severity of food poisoning, two-year-old Sidam Ayyu died.

They immediately shifted all the affected people to Narnoor Primary Health Centre, where a three-year-old girl Sidam Chinnu Bayi succumbed.

After initial treatment at the health centre, doctors shifted the patients to the government hospital in Utnoor, a bigger town. By evening, one-year-old boy Kodapa Supaari was also dead.

Some of the patients were also being shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), a super speciality hospital in Adilabad, for better treatment. Their condition is said to be stable.

When contacted, Adilabad district medical and health officer Dr Rajeev Raju said the condition of 24 patients, including 15 children, admitted in RIMS was stable.

“Two of them are still in ICU and we are monitoring their condition,” he said.

Dr Raju also said the samples of food and water have been sent to a laboratory for testing and the reports were awaited.

Utnoor’s Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) project officer S Krishna Aditya and deputy superintendent of police David Yesudas visited the village and inquired about the incident.
