Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar was appointed as the observer for Goa while Union minister of state L Murugan was appointed as the co-observer.

On Sunday, Uttar Pradesh chief minister-designate Yogi Adityanath met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders to discuss the contours of his new government expected to be formed after Holi, which falls on March 18 this year.

Adityanath will be the first chief minister in the last 37 years to return to power after completing a full term in the state. The BJP won 255 of 403 seats in the polls.

There has been speculation surrounding the number of deputy chief ministers that the Yogi government 2.0 will have, though BJP leaders indicated that the shape of the new government is still under discussion. The outgoing Adityanath government had two deputy chief ministers, an OBC and a Brahmin.

In Uttarakhand, where chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami lost the elections, the legislative party is expected to meet soon to discuss the transformation.

Incumbent Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh took oath as a member of the Legislative Assembly on Monday. The newly-elected MLAs were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh, who took oath as the protem Speaker of the Manipur assembly on Sunday. The chief ministerial face, however, is yet to be declared by the party.

In Goa, while chief minister Pramod Sawant won the elections, there are murmurs that legislators and party workers have been pushing the central leadership for a new face for the chair.

Earlier in the day, state BJP chief Sadanand Shet Tanavade told reporters that the new government in the state will also be sworn in after Holi, along with the three other states.

In the polls, the BJP emerged as the single largest party, winning 20 seats. The MGP, which fought the Goa elections in an alliance with the Trinamool Congress (TMC), won two seats and has extended its “unconditional support” to the BJP. The TMC was completely rejected by voters.

The central observers take a call on picking the leader of the legislative party following consultations with legislators and lawmakers in the state.
