Delhi Election Results 2020 Highlights| AAP returns to power in Delhi, party promises not to let down city
The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made a clean sweep in Delhi assembly election winning 62 seats in the 70-member House. The BJP was in second spot having won eight seats. The Congress, which drew a blank the last time, again failed to open its account. Counting of votes for the February 8 polls was held on Tuesday at 21 centres across the city. The final voting percentage in the polls was 62.59%.In Delhi’s 70-seat assembly, there are 58 general seats and 12 reserved seats.Chief minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal retained his New Delhi seat. His deputy Manish Sisodia also won again from the Patparganj seat. Several political leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate Kejriwal, who had in the run-up to the polls repositioned himself as a person focussing on the welfare of the people from being a person always at loggerheads with the authorities.

Subhash Chopra takes responsibility for Congress’ debacle in Delhi polls
Delhi Congress chief Subhash Chopra has taken responsibilty for the party’s debacle in the assembly election, Speaking to news agency ANI, Chopra said, “I take the responsibility for the debacle of the party in Delhi Assembly Polls. I had less time, but still I put all my efforts. I have never seen such politics in Delhi ever, where voters got influenced by the advertisements done by AAP and voted for it.”

The last result in the Delhi Assembly election has gone in favour of the ruling AAP. The party has won the Timarpur seat, taking its final tally to 62 in the 70-member assembly. AAP’s Dilip Pandey defeated BJP’s Surinder Pal Singh (Bittoo) by 24144 votes.

With this, BJP has won eight seats in the Delhi assembly election. It is a distant second to the ruling AAP which looks set to win 62 seats.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal received his MLA Certificate from the Returning Officer of the New Delhi constituency. The AAP convener retained his assembly seat, defeating BJP’s Sunil Kumar Yadav by 21,697 votes. Kejriwal had won from the New Delhi seat by 31, 583 votes in 2015.
Kailash Gahlot retains Najafgarh, improves victory margin
Aam Aadmi Party candidate Kailash Gahlot has won from the Najafgarh constituency. The Delhi transport minister defeated Ajeet Singh Kharkhari of the BJP by 6,231 votes in one of the last few results to be declared in the Delhi assembly poll.
Gahlot has improved his victory margin this time, having won by just 1,555 votes in 2015.

BJP’s Jitender Mahajan has defeated his nearest rival, Sarita Singh of AAP, to win the Rohtas Nagar seat. Mahajan won by 13, 241 votes. Singh was the sitting MLA in this east Delhi assembly constituency.

Subhash Chopra has tendered his resignation from the post of Delhi Congress chief, reports ANI. The party has failed to win any seat in these elections just like the 2015 polls.

AAP retains Dwarka assembly seat, taking its tally to 55 seats. It is leading on seven other seats. Party candidate Vinay Mishra defeated Pardyuman Rajput of the BJP by 14, 387 votes. In the initial rounds of counting, Rajput was leading over Mishra. AAP’s Aadarsh Shastri had won Dwarka in 2015 by a much bigger margin of 39,366 votes.

BJP bags Laxmi Nagar by just 880 votes
The BJP has won the Laxmi Nagar assembly seat by a narrow margin. Party candidate Abhay Verma defeated AAP’s Nitin Tyagi by just 880 votes. This is the seventh seat that the BJP has won in this election so far. It is leading in one more. Tyagi was the sitting MLA from this east Delhi seat.

AAP’s Girish Soni has retained his Madipur seat. He defeated Kailash Sankla of the BJP by 22, 719 votes. However, Soni’s victory margin this time has shrunk by around 7,000 votes. He had won from here in 2015 by 29, 387 votes. Congress’ Jai Prakash Panwar came in the third spot.

AAP retains Karol Bagh seat
AAP’s Vishesh Ravi has won from the Karol Bagh seat. He had won from here in 2015 as well. Ravi defeated BJP’s Yogender Chandoliya by over 31,000 votes. Karol Bagh is a reserved constituency.

Virender Singh Kadian of Aam Aadmi Party has won from the Delhi Cantt assembly seat, defeating Manish Singh of the BJP. Kadian’s winning margin is 10, 590 votes. AAP’s Surender Singh had won the seat in 2015.

Aam Aadmi Party’s Parlad Singh Sawhney has won from the Chandni Chowk seat, defeating his nearest rival, BJP’s Suman Kumar Gupta by 29, 584 votes. The party has won this seat in 2015 also but Alka Lamba was the winning candidate for the party.
This time, though, Lamba contested from here on a Congress ticket and was a distant third.

BJP’s Anil Kumar Bajpai has won from the Gandhi Nagar assembly seat. He defeated AAP’s Naveen Chaudhary by 6, 079 votes. Bajpai had won from this seat in 2015 but on an AAP ticket.
The BJP, though in the number two position in the Delhi polls, has so far won only six seats and is leading on two others.

Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Tuesday congratulated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over AAP’s “splendid third victory” in the assembly polls and said this win assures the rest of India yet again that “desperate acts of communal polarisation has limited currency”, reports PTI.

AAP’s Model Town candidate Akhilesh Pati Tripathi said he was relieved when he trailed by just 98 votes in first round of counting. “This is a constituency where AAP would generally trail by 1500 votes in first round”, he said. As of now he is leading by over 4,000 votes.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday instructed AAP workers to not burst crackers “during victory celebrations”
Party functionaries said though preparations are underway to celebrate the victory in the polls, whose results will be announced on Tuesday, Kejriwal has asked party volunteers not to burst firecrackers as it contributes to pollution.
