Drug probe not connected to Rajput’s death: NCB opposes Rhea Chakraborty’s bail plea in HC
The anti-drug agency told the court on Tuesday that the investigation has nothing to do with Rajput’s death case and it’s a case of ‘drug syndication’.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday opposed the bail applications filed by actor Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik in the Bombay High Court following their arrest in a drug case linked to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
The anti-drug agency told the court on Tuesday that the investigation has nothing to do with Rajput’s death and it’s a case of ‘drug syndication’.
“All throughout arguments, applicants state that this is connected to Sushant Singh Rajput death case but this investigation has nothing to do with it,” ASG Anil Singh, lawyer for NCB, told the court, as quoted by ANI.
The court is hearing the bail pleas filed by Rhea and her brother. On September 8, the NCB had arrested Rhea Chakraborty for allegedly procuring drugs for Sushant. Chakraborty was arrested along with several others.
The anti-drug agency further said that all the people arrested in the case are interlinked to each other and there were regular links and purchasing of drugs.
“Want to point out that this is a drug syndicate and that they are all interlinked. All persons arrested till now, are connected with each other and it is a syndicate. There were regular links and purchasing,” NCB said in the court.
Drug deal is not restricted to Sushant, the NCB told Bombay High Court. “This is not a case related to Sushant Singh Rajput. He may have been one of the consumers but the entire transaction and deal is not restricted to him,” the NCB further said.
The NCB has so far also questioned actors Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh in the drugs probe.
On June 14, the 34-year-old actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his residence in Mumbai’s Bandra.
Apart from NCB, the case is also being investigated by two other central agencies -- Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
