In pics: How a leopard trapped in dry well was rescued after two hours
This is the second incident in recent past of a big cat coming into conflict with humans. Early December, a mob cornered a leopard , killed it and ate it.
A leopard, which was trapped inside the dry well in Gokulnagar area of Guwahati in the north-eastern state of Assam, was rescued by forest officials after over two hours of struggle.
This is the second incident in recent past of the rising conflict between humans and animals as rapid development encroaches into their shrinking habitat. Recently a mob of nearly 100 people cornered a leopard, which strayed into a village in Assam and killed a 60 year old man, attackled it with sharp weapons, killed , cut it up and ate it.
On Wednesday the leopard found in a dry well was tranquilized and hoisted to safety with the help of forest officials and vets. The big cat was later and sent to Assam State Zoo.
The vet, Bijoy Gogoi, climbed down into the well after the leopard was tranquilized and tied the rope around it after which it was pulled out.
