Indian Army kills intruder on LoC in Jammu, body handed over to Pakistan

The body of the slain intruder was handed over to Pakistan army officers via Chakan-da-Bagh in Poonch at around 7.30 pm.

The Indian Army on Wednesday foiled a suspected infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Rajouri sector, shooting dead an intruder, army officials said.

Early Wednesday morning, an infiltration bid was foiled in Rajouri sector, a defence spokesman said. On the infiltrator being challenged, Pakistani posts in the area opened fired in support and the Indian Army also retaliated, killing him. His body was later handed over to the local police, the spokesman added.

Army sources said that the army patrol had observed movement of two persons in the Keri sub sector.

“In the exchange of fire, one of them was killed while another managed to flee back to Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir,” they added.

Around 7.30 pm, the body of the slain intruder was handed over to Pakistan army officers via Chakan-da-Bagh in Poonch.

“The Pakistani army officers had arrived at the meeting point at 5 pm and they waited for the family of the intruder, who arrived around 7 pm. Eventually, the body was handed over to them,” said an army officer.

Meanwhile, Pakistan on Wednesday summoned India’s Deputy High Commissioner to protest the “unprovoked ceasefire violations” across the Line of Control by the Indian forces that resulted in the death of a Pakistani villager.

Director General (South Asia and SAARC) Mohammad Faisal, who is also the foreign ministry spokesman, summoned the Indian diplomat and “condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian forces along the Line of Control on September 4,” the Pakistani Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement.

According to a post on the website of the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the publicity wing of the Pakistani defence forces, a civilian, Abdul Rauf was killed “due to unprovoked Indian firing on civil population in Kotkoterra Sector of the LoC on Tuesday afternoon. Rauf had taken his animals for grazing when targeted by Indian troops, it added.

The development come as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived on a short visit to Islamabad before heading to India.
