As it happened: Parl remains disrupted, Lok Sabha passes I-T amendment Bill

The Opposition’s demands for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence in the Parliament made way for very little progress on Monday, and Tuesday is expected to be no different.

It’s been another day full of ruckus and sloganeering in the Parliament, with the repeated adjournments of Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, despite BJP’sassurance of PM Modi’s presence in the House if needed.

The Opposition protested in the Well of the Rajya Sabha causing chaos and disrupting the proceedings, ending the proceedings of the House as early as 2.30pm for the day.

The Lok Sabha saw no different day than its previous sessions so far. It was suspended for the rest of the day following ruckus over Income Tax Amendment Bill.

The Opposition has been stalling the proceedings in both the Houses over the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes for over two weeks now.

Early in the day, the BJP parliamentary board huddled up and so did the Opposition leaders to discuss their strategy in the Houses.

The Opposition’s demands for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence in the Parliament made way for very little progress on Monday, and Tuesday too saw no development.

Here are live updates from the Parliament on Tuesday:

2.57pm: Lok Sabha adjourned till 11am on Wednesday after ruckus over Income Tax Bill.

2.55pm: Lok Sabha passes the Taxation Laws (Second Amendment) Bill 2016

2.48pm: Finance minister Arun Jaitley speaks up amid uproar and protests by the Opposition.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a huge announcement on November 8 to fight the menace of black money and corruption in the country. The government moved amendments in Income tax law after it saw that a few people were still trying to convert black money into white post-demonetisation: FM Jaitley in Lok Sabha

2.30pm: Rajya Sabha witnesses ruckus over sloganeering against PM Narendra Modi. Deputy chairman Kurien adjourns House till 11am on Wednesday.

2.26pm: Leaders from all anti-BJP fronts walk up to the Well and shout “Pradhan Mantri Sadan me aao”, demanding PM Narendra Modi’s presence in the House.

2.15pm: Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Kurien dodges questions from members on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence in the House. “Speak only on the point of order, else sit down,” he insists.

2.00pm: Both the Houses open to another session of sloganeering and protests.

Disruption in Lok Sabha continues, adjourned till 2.30pm

12.05pm: Even the Lower House is hit by the ruckus over the demonetisation. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan tries to contain the uproar, but demands for an apology from PM Modi grow louder.

Lok Sabha adjourned till 2pm.

12.00pm: Both the Houses open after adjournment but ruckus continues. Opposition shouts slogans demanding PM Modi’s presence in the House.

Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2pm.

11.45am: Lok Sabha adjourned till 12pm

11.30am: Lok Sabha opens to continued chaos over demonetisation.

11.17am: Lok Sabha adjourned till 11.30am, Rajya Sabha till 12 pm

11.15am: The Income Tax Amendment Bill is not to turn black money into white, but to use money looted from poor for welfare: PM Modi at BJP parliamentary board meeting.
