Punjab budget 2022: This is the first budget by the AAP government.

In big announcements for Punjab's farmers, the Bhagwant Mann government has allotted 11,560 crores for the agriculture sector in its first state budget. Of the total amount, 200 crore will be allotted to resolve the issue of stubble burning, which becomes a pain point for north India - including Delhi-NCR - as soon as winter sets in.

In other key announcements, the state government has promised to set up 16 medical colleges in the state in the next five years. "This will bring up the total number of colleges to 25," Cheema told the state assembly. An amount of 30 crore has been marked for student scholarships too.

Punjab has borrowed some leaves from Delhi's books. After the national capital, Mohall clinics will now be set up in Punjab. "This government proposes to establish 'Mohall/ Pind clinics” in order to decentralise the public health services to the lowest level. This year the government plans to establish 117 Mohalla Clinics for which an initial allocation of 77 crore is being proposed. Seventy-five of these Mohalla Clinics will be operationalised by August 15 - India's 75th Independence Day," the minister said.

Delhi Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia was in attendance as Punjab's first paperless budget was presented.

Also, road accident victims will be provided help by the state government in a scheme that is already operational in Delhi. "The casualties in road accident due to the dearth of timely medical help is a remorseful experience. The AAP government is extremely sensitive to the cause and would try to make sure that anyone who suffers from a road accident is saved. For this, a scheme on the pattern of ‘Farishtey’ scheme in New Delhi would be launched in Punjab whereby anyone can take a road accident victim(s) and get them admitted to any hospital. The sufferers of road accidents will be given free treatment and the entire cost would be borne by the government," Cheema said.
