The statements come at a time when all three major political parties – Congress, BJP and the Janata Dal (Secular) or JD(S) – have been treading on uncertainty owing to the volatile nature of Karnataka’s politics.

Ahead of the assembly elections in the state next year, Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday exuded confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will return to power on its own in the state.

“BJP is certain to come to power on its strength with a clear majority in the 2023 Assembly election if we all work united. We have Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi’s popularity and our organisational strength. If we work with unity and work with a coordinated agenda, BJP is sure to come to power in 2023 on its strength,” Bommai said in Bengaluru on Sunday.

The statements come at a time when all three major political parties – Congress, BJP and the Janata Dal (Secular) or JD(S) – have been treading on uncertainty owing to the volatile nature of Karnataka’s politics.

Karnataka has rarely had the same party back in power for two consecutive terms since at least 2000 lends to the fears of political parties and its legislators.

Siddaramaiah became one of just three chief ministers who completed a full five-year term in office from 2013-18.

On the contrary, the BJP has had three chief ministers between 2008-13 and at two since it came to power in 2019 by engineering the collapse of the HD Kumaraswamy-led Congress-JD(S) coalition government.

The BJP is riding high on confidence after the results of the elections in five states were announced on Thursday.

“BJP would get a clear majority in the 2023 Assembly election in the state,” Bommai said.

Bommai told party workers that the ideology and programmes of the government should be communicated at the grassroots.

“We have the strength of Modi’s popularity and strength of the organisation. If we can work unitedly then we can set the narrative and agenda. The victory could be achieved if we all work hard unitedly. I am ready to dedicate myself 24X7 to this cause. Government and the party are like our two eyes. We reach out to every nook and corner of the state, strengthening BJP where it is weak and further consolidating our position where we are already strong. We have learnt our lessons from the previous election. In 2023 we will see the Lotus bloom 100% on the third floor of Vidhana Soudha,” Bommai said.
