12 new faces in SDF's list of nominees
The Sikkim Democratic Front released the second and final list of its candidates for the coming Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
The Sikkim Democratic Front on Monday released the second and final list of its candidates for the coming Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, adding two more women candidates to its line-up of nominees which has a total of 12 new faces.
Simultaneous polls to 32 Assembly and lone Lok Sabha seats of Sikkim will be held in the last phase of elections on May 10.
The candidate for the lone Sangha seat has not been announced as the party intends supporting an Independent from there.
Nakul Rai has been declared the party nominee for the lone Lok Sabha seat from the state.
However, Beena Rai, a first timer, whose candidature was announced by the SDF along with 21 others in the first list last week has been withdrawn from Chakung constituency which has gone back to its sitting MLA P S Tamang.
Releasing the list at a press conference here today, the SDF's election commitee chairman, B B Gooroong, said that the last-ditch withdrawal of Beena Rai from Chakung had been due to tremendous pressure from party workers at Chakung who desperately wanted Tamang back there.
Tamang, popularly known as P S Gholey, has represented the constituency in the state Assembly twice in a row and had been announced as the party nominee from central Pendam as per its first list of candidates.
