2,000 families evacuated in Gujarat due to rains
Similarly, about 1000 families were evacuated from Bharuch district, Deputy District Collector JP Solanki said.
About 2,000 families were evacuated from low-lying areas of Navsari and Bharuch districts in south Gujarat as heavy rains lashed various parts of the state, an official said.
"The river Poorna is flowing about one-and-a-half foot above the danger mark and the water from the river has flooded several low-lying areas of Navsari city forcing the authorities to evacuate about 1,000 families till now," Navsari District Collector RC Meena said.
"River Ambika is also in spate and the water from the river has cut off about six villages in Gandevi taluka of the district," Meena said, adding that rains had ceased in the afternoon and the water level was expected to go down.
Similarly, about 1000 families were evacuated from Bharuch district, Deputy District Collector JP Solanki said.
"About 800 families were evacuated due to flooding in low-lying areas of about three villages near Ankleshwar town and were provided shelter in government schools.
"About 190 families were evacuated from low-lying areas of Vilayat taluka near Bharuch city and 10 families were shifted from Vagra taluka," he added.
Meanwhile, according to the district collector of Valsad Dilip Raval, the rivers were flowing below the danger mark though heavy rains were reported in the area of Madhubani dam.
"An 18-year old girl died after being washed off from a brigde on the Vanki rivulet near Valsad on Friday evening," Raval said.
There have been heavy showers in several other districts too, including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Anand, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Amreli districts.
