Some 25 people were killed and four injured when a bus plunged down a deep ravine in south China.

The bus was carrying 29 passengers when it ran off the road and fell into a valley about 100 meters deep in Yunnan province's Qiaojia County, said the official Xinhua News Agency.

The injured, including one person in critical condition, were taken to hospital for treatment, it said. An investigation was underway.

China's roads are among the world's deadliest, with tens of thousands of people killed each year in accidents blamed on poorly maintained roads and vehicles or inattention to safety rules.
