56.43% voting in first phase in Maharashtra

A total of 56.43 per cent of 2.94 crore voters had cast their ballot in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls to 24 seats in Maharashtra on Tuesday, state Election Office sources said.

Though, the calculation of polling percentage was completed, the exact figure of two Lok Sabha constituencies of Chandrapur and Chimur was still awaited, they said.

The election office had earlier estimated that around 53 per cent of voters had cast their votes.

According to the figure announced yesterday, Chimur in Vidarbha region registered the highest turnout of 62 per cent while Dhule recorded the lowest 36 per cent.

The remaining 24 constituencies, including six in Mumbai, Pune and Baramati would go to polls on April 26.
