8 Hizbul men held in J&K, arms, explosives seized
In a major fillip to the J&K police, eight Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were arrested along with huge arms cache.
Dealing a major blow to Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit, Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday arrested eight of its ultras, including a self-styled battalion commander and unearthed a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives in Pulwama district, a police spokesman said.
Acting on a tip off, special operations group of local police arrested the Battalion Commander Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat alias Saqib from Pulwama district town, the spokesman said.
The questioning of the captured militant led to the busting of four hideouts of the outfit in different parts of the South Kashmir district, the spokesman said adding the search of these hideouts led to the recovery of a universal machine gun, a rocket projectile gun, two AK 47 rifles and a large quantity of assorted ammunition, grenades and other explosive material.
The arrested militant also identified different modules of the outfit active in the town and accordingly seven militants of the group were arrested, the spokesman said.
The spokesman withheld the identity of other captured ultras saying disclosing the names of the arrested persons might hamper the police investigation.
Describing the arrest of Bhat, most wanted militant of South Kashmir, as a prize catch, the spokesman said his arrest and subsequent busting of the Hizbul modules in Pulwama town has dealt a major blow to the outfit and its operations in the district.
All the captured militants are being interrogated and more arrests and recovery of arms and ammunition are expected, the spokesman said.
