AAP charges Reliance with laundering Rs. 6,530 crore
According to the party, in 2011, the Indian high commission in Singapore had written to the Centre about the money laundering case, in which Rs 6,530 crore had come in India from a one-room company and invested into Reliance group.
The Aam Aadmi Party continued its attack on Reliance Industries and its chairman Mukesh Ambani and petroleum minister Veerappa Moily on Thursday.
The company, it alleged, was involved in money laundering and the UPA government had not bothered to investigate the “open and shut case”. Moily, AAP further alleged, had cleared the extension of Sudhir Vasudeva’s tenure as the CMD of ONGC despite the lack of a clearance by the vigilance commission.
According to the party, in 2011, the Indian high commission in Singapore had written to the Centre about the money laundering case, in which Rs 6,530 crore had come in India from a one-room company and invested into Reliance group.
“The High Commission stated the money had come into India through Bio Metrix Marketing Ltd, which does not do any business,” said Prashant Bhushan, a Supreme Court advocate and member of AAP.
“It was pointed out that this was a company with no assets, no equity and did not file an income tax returns. Yet this was the single biggest FDI into India from Singapore.”
Reliance, he said, was “laundering its ill-gotten profits through Singapore and depositing it into accounts of Mr Mukesh Ambani”.
The Reliance Industries said Bhushan’s allegations were false and baseless.
“The allegations made by Mr Prashant Bhushan today are highly defamatory, false, irresponsible and devoid of any merit or substance whatsoever,” a statement from the company said.
“These false allegations have been repeatedly made and their regurgitation in the media is fuelling an orchestrated, politically-motivated campaign against us.”
Bhushan also said Moily’s handpicked man Vasudeva had “favoured the Reliance Industries by allowing them to extend into ONGC fields and extract natural gas”.
