The abductors injected cortizone, perinorm and other sedatives to keep him in unconscious, he added. Police seized three syringes, four injection vials, saline water bottles and needles from the spot. A total of six criminals were arrested and a countrymade pistol, eight live cartridges besides three cell phones recovered from their possession.

The tormented boy, who was barely able to mumble a few words due to the heavy dose of sedatives, was immediately sent to the sadar hospital. Later, he was shifted to a private nursing home in Madhubani by his parent.

“Once he regains consciousness, we will record his statement to get some more clues. Our first priority was to provide him immediate medical attention. I have talked to the civil surgeon and other doctors, who are trying to get the toxins out of his system. He is safe, but under medical supervision,” said the SP.

Soon after the disappearance of Ankur, his family members had informed the local police about it, but only a ‘missing’ case was registered. The police reportedly also asked the parents to search the child on their own! The matter, however, took a new turn on Thursday morning when Alamganj police received information about the recovery of a boy in Madhubani.

Two police personnel along with boy’s father Subodh Kumar Shah, an ex-armyman, rushed to Madhubani. The SP said acting on a tip off, a police team led by the SHO of Basopatti police station, Srinarayan Paswan, under supervision of the DSP, conducted a raid at an abandoned house surrounded by shrubs and nabbed three persons — Umesh Kumar Singh (Khajauli), Rajeev Kumar Yadav (Biraul) and Kamlesh Kumar Singh.

During the raid, the police found that a 12-year-old boy was lying on a bed in an unconscious state. In course of interrogation, the trio revealed the name of five others and admitted that the boy had been abducted from Laxmipur-Koiri Tola locality in Patna City by one of the tenants — Vivek of Biharsharif.

Another police team carried out raids at Khairatol locality in Jainagar and arrested Ram Naresh Singh, Jawahar Mahto and Mithilesh Yadav. The SP said that the boy’s blood sample and seized vials were being tested to ascertain the nature of the injected substances. He further stated that all the six had confessed to their involvement in the abduction for a ransom of Rs. 25 lakh. Patna SSP Amrit Raj confirmed that a police team had been sent to Madhubani for bringing the boy. And, the Alamganj police have now registered a kidnapping case on the basis of the confession statements of the accused.
