Action to be taken against city SAD Chief
Senior SAD leader Sukhdev Singh Bhaur said the party would take disciplinary action against Chandigarh unit chief for campaigning in favour of INLD nominee.
Senior SAD Badal leader Sukhdev Singh Bhaur on Friday said the party would take disciplinary action against Chandigarh unit president Gurpratap Singh Riar for campaigning in favour of INLD nominee in contravention of party directives.
"There would be no hesitation in taking action against Riar and others violating the party discipline", Bhaur said, adding that even veteran leader G S Tohra had campaigned in favour of BJP nominee Satya Pal Jain a few days before his death, Bhaur told reporters here today.
Bhaur said he and other senior leaders, including former SGPC President Jagir Kaur, General Secretary Prem Singh Chanddumajra, Tota Singh and others had come to campaign here for Jain as per directions of party president Parkash Singh Badal.
Bhaur, a former acting president of the SGPC, said that there was no need for Badal to personally issue a statement since the position had been made clear by party office through its Secretary.
Badal, whose party has an electoral alliance with the BJP has been telling election meetings in Punjab that the combine has to win all seats in Punjab and Chandigarh.
BJP's National Executive Member Seshadri Chari, who was also present, told reporters that the BJP led NDA would reach its initial target of over 300 seats since the issue of national leadership was dominant and there was a high level of consciousness favouring Atal Behari Vajpayee as the Prime Minister.
