After Jaane Tu.. Manjari waiting for right movies

Manjari Fadnis who was the leading lady of films like Rok Sako To Rok Lo and Mumbai Salsa was initially apprehensive of taking up the role in the film Jaane Tu.

, was initially apprehensive of taking up the role in the film which stars a host of newcomers including the protagonists Imran Khan and Genelia D'Souza.



"Yes, there were apprehensions initially. But, when the director Abbas Tyerwala narrated the script and my role to me, I realised that my role was very interesting with lot of scope and potential for performance. It had various shades of emotions," Manjari, who was the leading lady of films like

Rok Sako To Rok Lo

and

Mumbai Salsa

informs.



She said the entire cast of the film participated in a workshop in Panchgani before the film went on floors and all of them bonded very well.



"We had a blast and that reflected in our performances later on screen," she added.



Manjari admitted that it is difficult for Bollywood aspirants to survive and make a mark for themselves in the industry without a godfather or relatives from the film fraternity. "If your first film does not do well, nobody takes you seriously," she said.


Manjari said she had to struggle for two years after the release of her first film to be noticed in

Jaane Tu....



"I utilised this time to prepare myself and I watched different movies, read books, trained myself in dancing at Shiamak Davar's institute and lost weight. I kept a low profile even as I did a Bengali film called

Faltu

which won a national award recently in the social awareness category. Besides, I also did a Telugu film and will start work on a Tamil film soon," she added.



To a question on whether the success of

Jaane tu...

has helped her in getting noticed, Manjari said the film has been released recently and she was waiting for good work to come her way.



"When a film is a success, everybody associated with it benefits and so I am keeping my fingers crossed," she said.


Her next realease

I am 24

is scheduled for September.



Manjari, the only child of her parents, says sinec her father was in the army she lived in different parts of the country. She completed schooling at Pune's Fergusson College but could not study further as she got a break in the industry with

Rok Sako To Rok Lo

in 2003.



"I could not complete my graduation because of my preoccupation with films. But, I completed my degree in Sociology from Indira Gandhi National Open University," she said.



Replying to a question, Fadnis said Marathi films she would love to do a Marathi film.



"If I get a good script and role, I would love to do a Marathi film as well. If I can do Bengali, Tamil and Telugu gilms, why not Marathi. Language has never been a problem with me. Bengali is easier to understand. But, Telugu and Tamil are difficult," she said.
