Why can't High Court interfere in matters related to human lives. Judiciary is bothered about house grabbing, traffic lights or encroachments. Are they numb to human feelings? Judiciary has immense power under Article 226 of the Constitutions to interfere in such matters. Why did they not interfere in this case?

Why can't High Court interfere in matters related to human lives. Judiciary is bothered about house grabbing, traffic lights or encroachments. Are they numb to human feelings? Judiciary has immense power under Article 226 of the Constitutions to interfere in such matters. Why did they not interfere in this case? And imagine she was a member of the legal fraternity. Imagine she had practiced law with Late Hargobind Dayal Srivastava, a man who was responsible for the Lucknow bench of the High Court. She was shot at on February 28 and the culprits are still at large.

It's shocking. Mehar has not died. She has been murdered. It's a murder of the system. The culprits are still at large. At least now the police should show some respect to the departed soul by arresting those behind the murder.

Secretary, Lucknow First, and a close friend of the Bhargava
family

Justice delayed, IS justice denied. Mehar was shot at because she protested eve-teasing. Now, the public should raise their voice against police inaction. The accused should be brought to book and process of law expedited.
—Amrita Dass,
Career counsellor and Head, Institute of Career Studies

It's been a very traumatic experience. Mehar was a vibrant, wonderful human being with a heart of gold.
—Chandra Prakash,
A close friend of the Bhargava family and former Chief Warden, Civil Defence

She was my senior in school and since then she was gutsy and spoke her mind. We used to look up to her. Her's is the typical example of whenever women are articulate they face abuse or death. But women should not stop speaking up and that will be a real tribute to her. How many they will kill, how many they will gag? The police is not concerned. They never were. They had always been supporting the criminals but still, we should not give up. I will not give up.
—Nishi Pandey,
Faculty of English
Department, LU.
Mehar's death has shocked women, particularly those who move in the public and face day-to-day challenges in a male-dominated society. Even after the goons attacked Mehar, the police and administration took no action. Women do not feel safe in the city these days.
—Ranjana Dixit,
President,
Family Court

It's very sad and shocking. It speaks volumes about the law and order situation in the city. You don't know when someone may whip out a gun and shoot you down.
—Sudhir Halwasia,
Businessman

Actually she was one person I knew who left a mark on whosoever she met. She was so vivacious. Regarding the law and order situation here, we don't feel safe any longer. Now we have stopped taking walks. Now, we have started emphasising to our children not to react to such situations that led to an attack on Mehar.
—Madhuri Halwasiya,
A close friend of
Mehar
The situation has come to such
a pass that only those with
power can survive in society and those willing to live peacefully will suffer. The government machinery, police do exist but it seems they are not for the common people.
—Dr KD Verma,
President, Lucknow College of Surgeons

I am devastated to learn about Mehar’s death. I knew her since childhood . In fact when I was in Delhi a few days back, I visited her in the hospital. Her husband Luv is also known to me since childhood. Mehar was a fighter all her life and she stood for the rights of a large number of  underprivileged people. This is very shocking news for all in Lucknow.
—Kiron Chopra,
Former Chairman, Confederation of  Indian Industry (COO), UP Committee

I did not know Mehar personally but we met off and on at various meetings in Lucknow. I am completely shocked to hear about her demise.
—Jayant Krishna,
Principal Consultant & Head,
TCS, Lucknow
