ONE MORE case, probably of polio, has been traced in the village Naryawali of Sagar district. The right side of one-and-half-year-old girl Shivani was rendered paralysed some two weeks back.
Her father Devideen Sahu said that she is his only child. Her right leg and hand stop working about two weeks ago and lost sensation.
She was examined at primary health centre by Dr N K Saini who advised Devideen to take girl to another hospital for further checks. The distraught father said polio vaccine had been given to the girl on time.
Though he claims it is polio infection, due to lack of information he has not visited the district hospital for the treatment. The CMO, Dr Gadre, said that all the government doctors had been instructed to handle the case of Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) among the children on priority basis.
He said stool sample is taken to identify poliovirus. Within 60 days the virus can be identified and traced properly through the sample. Regular reports are reaching the Health Department about polio-infected children, but the department has failed to react to the reported cases.
On July 11, Hindustan Times had reported that the two brothers, Sonu and Monu, residents of Shahgarh, had been affected by the polio, but the doctors of district hospital discarded their parents’ claim and sent them back to the village.
